At Boston Precision Motion, we create motion systems for a wide variety of applications. Some of our past projects include self-balancing robots, meter-class 3-D printers, and electric vehicles of all size and shape. We thoroughly optimize every component in your power system, optimizing for high efficiency, high power, or whatever is desired.
Many of our projects for our clients are protected by non-disclosure agreements, but there are some which we can show. Most famously, we created the power system for the combat robot Uppercut, enabling weapon power never before seen in the field of combat robotics. Running on 200V custom motors and inverters, terrifying blade packed a punch so hard that we quickly became one of the top feared robots in the competition. Our robot had enough torque to flip itself over using only the blade, and enough speed to push our 80lb spinning weapon past 200mph, literally exploding the competition.
The secret to our power system was using IPM motors, which allowed maximum low-end torque without sacrificing any high-end speed. Our weapon was powered by two of these custom motors, and with gearing this produced nearly 100Nm of torque to spin our blade up at lightning speed. These motors were driven with custom inverters, and tuned using our 10 Nm dyno.
We even hit one other robot so hard that they flew across the entire box and impacted the other side halfway up.
